I Love VelvetThe New York City-based I Love Velvet, an mPOS technology provider for large retailers, restaurant chains, airlines and leisure and entertainment groups, has acquired French virtual prepaid card provider WeXpay.

I Love Velvet said it bought WeXpay because of its capability as an international payment gateway, which will enable I Love Velvet to handle payments across Europe and North America.

WeXpay's virtual prepaid card can be used at 300 websites and 8,500 point-of-sale terminals in France.

The acquisition of WeXpay will enable I Love Velvet to offer extended mobile payment services from sales management to the final payment transaction, Patrick Bouaziz, chief vision officer at I Love Velvet, said in a news release.

Organizations are looking for a solution that performs a wider range of functions, from accepting mobile payments to CRM (customer relationship management) and inventory management, and it's no longer enough to offer a single mobile point-of-sale solution, Bouaziz said. This will be a key theme in 2014, he claimed.

WeXpay's Ballan de Ballansee, a 20-year mPOS industry veteran, will join I Love Velvet as managing director.
