Under the new draft law, the age, allowing the purchase of alcohol is to be increase from 18 to 21 years. The authors of the new law are confident that its adoption will protect our society from adolescent alcohol involvement.
Earlier, a similar initiative was supported by the Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, who noted that the later and less young people start drinking alcohol, the healthier the nation is.
The last opinion polls showed that 79 percent of respondents believe the ban on alcohol sale to young people under 21 years is an effective measure to combat alcohol addiction.
It should be recalled, that the Russian government supported the law on the minimum penalty for selling alcohol to minors a year ago. According to the amendments to the Criminal Code, the offender will pay a minimum fine of 50 thousand rubles ($750).
