The Rules of Shopping in Foreign Online Stores will not be Tightened
This was the comment of Nikolay Nikiforof, Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the RF to a number of media publications regarding the plans of his ministry to tighten rules of shopping in foreign online stores.
The minister reminded the current rules: the purchases costing below 40 thousand rubles are not subject to customs duties and additional taxes. He believes that this helps to stimulate development of e-commerce in Russia.
However the Deputy Minister of Communications and Mass Media Denis Sverdlov agreed that this problem exists: it’s cheaper to order a certain commodity abroad from online store than to buy it in Russia. Mr. Sverdlov said that this is wrong from the point of view of the Russian online merchants.
