The largest Russian retailer was ranked 23rd to became the only Russian company in the list. The American edition of the Forbes business magazine assesses the companies' innovation criterion using "the wisdom of the crowd". Besides, the magazine relies on investors' ability to identify companies with innovative business models.
Companies are ranked by their "innovation premium": the so called coefficient that includes the difference between their market capitalization and a net present value of cash flows from existing businesses (based on a proprietary formula from Credit Suisse HOLT).
In case of Tesla, the manufacturer of e-vehicles, which was ranked 1st, this premium amounted to 84.82%, while Magnit received 57.9%. The difference is all the more indicative as it includes a bonus demonstrating investors’ confidence in the company’s ability to build up earnings in the future.
In another Forbes rating of 200 largest Russian companies Magnit was ranked 4th in 2014 with 597.7 bln. rubles revenue and capitalization of 1.073 trln. rubles. Krasnodar-headquartered, the retail network was founded in 1994. The company staff exceeds 217 ths. employees.
