New Self-service Bicycle Scheme Launched in Kazan

Kazan bike-sharing systemA new self-service bicycle rental scheme was launched in Kazan. Twelve rental stations with a fleet of 260 bikes will be installed in the central part of Kazan in the framework of the project.

Kazan bike-sharing system is developed on the model of the global Cyclocity program which was first launched in 2002 and is currently working in 67 world cities. The program includes a total of 47 000 bicycles with up to 120 000 daily rentals.

The rental stations in Kazan will be open every year, from April to October. The project is carried out with the support of Bank of Kazan. Russ Outdoor will be responsible for project maintenance, including technical and billing services.

“In many cities around the world a bike has already proven itself to be an uncostly, functional and eco-friendly means of transport which allows city dwellers to quickly and comfortably get around in the city center. We expect that this novelty will soon become a common thing for both city dwellers and tourists”, Ilsur Metshin, Kazan City Mayor, said.

“We have employed the best global know-how in order to make the urban environment of Kazan city more comfortable and friendly for citizens and tourists which will come to visit Tatarstan’s capital in the days before the Universiade. All over the world outdoor advertising operators are acting as partners of city authorities in realization of infrastructure projects, providing installation and maintenance of the most innovative bus shelters, bike rental stations, toilets, newsstands and other street furniture objects. It was a great honour for us to install the self-service bike system in such a great city as Kazan”, Maxim Tkachev, Managing Director of Russ Outdoor, said.

To access the service, you need to complete online sign-up procedure on Further payment will be charged for hourly rentals. One-day subscription costs 30 roubles, 2-day subscription – 100 roubles, one-month subscription – 200 roubles. The first 30 minutes of journey are always free of charge. The first hour after the free period will cost 50 roubles, the second one and further – 150 roubles. To hire a bike for another free period, you will have to wait 15 minutes.
