Lenovo tablets took the lead in Russia

“Svyaznoy”, a Russian cellular retailer, declared significant changes in the segment of tablets in the 1st half of 2015. According to the statistics, with about 320 thousand units being sold, Lenovo tablets in Russia hold 11.5% of the market.
This is just as few as 0.5 percentage points less than Samsung, the absolute market leader defeating competitors by an impressive margin. In terms of sales volume, Lenovo is among the top three with the devices sold for the amount of 3.1 billion rubles. Sales of the brand tablets grew by 55% in units and 50% in cash. At the same time the popularity of Samsung tablet fell almost 2-fold last year, i.e. by 45% and 50% unit- and ruble-wise, respectively, which is significantly higher than the figures for the tablet market as a whole.
The growing popularity of Lenovo in the context of the crisis is caused by several important factors. First, the technical characteristics of the devices have brought them to the A-class gadget level, and, second, their cost is lower than that of the devices of their famous competitors. “It should be noted that there are practically no tablets from Lenovo presented in the most popular price segment of less than 5 thousand rubles.
This factor, however, did not prevent the brand from increasing not only sales volumes, but market share as well,” - says Michael Touch, president of Svyaznoy retail chain. Svyaznoy spokesmen note, that Oysters brand became the formal leader of the tablet sales in the Russian Federation. However, this does not reflect the real situation on the market, as a half of 380.000 units of this brand distributed in the Russian market were given to customers as gifts during various promotion campaigns.
