Largest Fine for Breach of Consumer Rights Imposed in Azerbaijan
The State Service for Antimonopoly Policy & Consumer Protection under the Ministry of Economic Development of Azerbaijan has imposed the country’s biggest-ever penalty for violation of consumer rights.
The Ministry reports that ENGIN LTD was fined for AZN 1.78 million in connection with the fact of unfair competition through illegal use of advertising and submission of incorrect information to the antimonopoly service.
"In the course of Baku advertising market monitoring it was found out that ENGIN LTD uses illegally advertising of some hygiene items, thereby breaking the right of choice of the consumer. The State Service ensured suspension of illegal advertising and imposed a fine of nearly AZN 1.8 million on the offender of consumer rights," the MED informed. The violator company advertised toothpaste Blend-a-Med, toothbrushes Oral-B and hygiene parcels Always-Ultra.
