finnair-tabletsPassengers flying with Finnair will soon be able to rent Samsung Tab 3 tablets, which come pre-loaded with movies, music and digital newspapers. The service will be introduced on 1 November and is being added as part of the airline’s 90th anniversary celebrations. Passengers will be able to rent the tablets for €10 on the airline’s new A321 aircraft.

The in-flight entertainment (IFE) on Finnair’s long-haul flights will also be upgraded, with the number of movies and TV programmes offered on demand set to nearly double.

Jouni Oksanen, Director of Customer Entertainment, Finnair, said: “Tablet computing clearly has the potential to revolutionise in-flight entertainment, as tablet systems are much lighter and easier to keep up-to-date from an operations point of view, while also offering the customer a much richer and more interactive entertainment experience.

“If tablet-based entertainment proves to be successful on these new aircraft, we will of course continue to evaluate the possibility of implementation across the fleet.”

Finnair’s decision to offer tablets onboard follows similar initiatives by the likes of Qantas and Lufthansa.
