The Moscow Transportation Department is discussing with the Chinese partners the possibility of Alipay mobile service to be used for transport fare payments.

This payment method will be available to Chinese tourists in the fall of 2017. To travel by metro, all they need to do is to scan the QR code on an ordinary bank terminal at the ticket offices with the Alipay app on their smartphones. The option will be also implemented for the ground transportation and in the Velobike bicycle rental areas.

«In recent years, Russia has seen a steady growth in the number of individual tourists. Moscow is a key destination for them, and the opportunity to pay for transport and additional services in their usual ways will be another step towards the introduction of infrastructure convenient for foreign tourists», says Bogdan Zadorozhny, Alipay Business Development Director in Russia, CIS and Middle East.

Over the past year, the Moscow Transportation Department has implemented payments with Mir, Visa and MasterCard cards at metro ticket offices and ticket machines. A pilot project for PayPass and payWave payments at turnstiles is underway.
